South Wales Regional Group Meeting - Understanding Human Error
Geoff Simpson will be our guest speaker, and he will be speaking about "Understanding Human Error". He has a range of examples and case studies, many, but not exclusively, from the mining industry.
Geoff began his career with a 1st class hons in Occupational Psychology from UWIST followed by a Masters in Ergonomics from UC London. He started work with British Steel which was followed by 4/5 years teaching at Univ Nottingham Psych Dept. He then began 25 years in the mining industry, initially with the Institute of Occupational Medicine, then British Coal and finally with International Mining Consultants Ltd. Since the late 90s he has been working in general H&S consultancy, for the last five years with his own company, Human Factors Solutions. He has covered almost all aspects of Human Factors in a range of industrial sectors from mining to health care, from Oil& Gas to nuclear power, from manufacturing to rail transportation. His primary work interests are human error, accident investigation and safety management. Geoff has published one book and over 90 journal and proceedings papers covering, in particular, human error and risk assessment.
